This page is dedicated to the garden railroad I am trying to "restore". It is located at the Glenn County Fairgrounds in front of the Orland, Newville, & Pacific's depot, and is starting to look better.

I would also like to make some changes to the railroad.

Changes to Make.....

  1. Install a station and possibly a siding.
  2. Get new locks for the tunnel portals.

UPDATES...

October 1st: I trimmed plants, pulled weeds, etc. After that I began on track. After an hour of scrubbing with a track cleaning block and only gotten a few feet, I knew I had to find a better way. I used some Life-Like cleaning fluid and it worked incredibly well, the rails werent shining, but the train was running! Next I had to fix a curve which only took a couple minutes. Then the tunnel, one side was locked, but the other had the door off for the 2 years it had not been used. I unlocked the on side and inside was a horrible site, about 20 snails and cobwebs everywhere! I took a broom to clean that out. There was an electrical problem earlier, but it was firgured out quickly thanks to the help of some other railroad volunteers. Everything was ready, then a problem arose, a dead spot on the east side of the bridge. That day I could not figure it out so it will have to wait. And I was so close!

More weeds and some other smaller plants will need to be trimmed, but the track is nearly ready for service!

The next projects will be the dead spot, more cleaning, and getting the small creek operational

May 14: On Saturday May 6th I again made another atempt to get the railroad running and cleaned up for the upcoming County Fair. The railroad was cleaned, but there is just no easy way to get the track clean so I will operate just my radio control/battery powered loco and future live steam loco on that track, so it is not a total loss. The good news is I got a new lock on the front gate, but need 2 smaller ones for the tunnel. Also, the railroad will be running Saturday and Sunday May 20th and 21st for the far so stop by!

June 22:  Restoration is still underway. Might be halted for most of the summer. Waaaay to hot. But now that there is a new lock on the gate to the garden railroad and I finally have a key, I can probably go work it sometime. So stay tuned for the update on that!

The "TO-DO" list for the restoration: (updated)
  • Get the creek and pump operating again
  • Fix "netting" where it is dfown to keep back "wandering hands".
