Dunsmuir Railroad Days 2006 photos are up!

The photos below were taken in May 2004 at the Truman ranch in Gerber, California. Pictured is the 2 foot gauge railroad and the O scale railroad. The ranch is occasionally opened to the public, altough most of the steam tractors are gone, and so is the 2 foot gauge railroad.

This is one of my favorite images

Here is Hubert's 2 foot gauge (24" between the inside of the rails) 1939 Ornstein & Koppel 0-4-0 steam engine #4 of the South Shasta Lines in which Hubert named his O scale railroad and his 2 foot gauge as well. It originally ran on the shipping docks in Germany till' being purchased in the late 1980's by Hubert. It originally burned coal, but when it was brought to Gerber, it was converted to wood. Also, I am pretty sure the bell was added when it was brought to the U.S., as most European locomotives did not have bells, but I guess I will never know. It ran for the open houses he had in April and May until 2004 (when these pics were taken) in which he closed his open houses for good. The locomotive had many problems and was sold to a man in Beaverton, Oregon. It was moved in early 2005.

This is a shot of the entire train. Evrting except th locomotive was built from scrath at the ranch. He has 3 passenger cars and a caboose. It can seat a lot of people.

A shot from the front of #4

A shot of the inside of the cab of #4. The red lever in the foreground is the brake. The two red levers on the right hand side of the cab are the Johnson Bar (makes the train move foreward or reverse) and the throtle. The one on the right is the Johnson bar and the other is the throtle. The gauge in the middle of the cab is the steam pressure gauge. I recall it operated around 140 or 150 p.s.i.

Some pictures of the O Scale South Shasta Lines

Here is the model of the roundhouse that once stood in Gerber. As you can see, there are many locomtoives being steamed up today.
